BIG BEAR LAKE, Calif. (March 14, 2007) -

Premier Properties Sotheby's International Realty joined with
The Arts Council

in sponsoring a special exhibit of Ming Dynasty antiquities at The Gallery. The items exhibited were from the private collection of David Dill and
Chet G. Troino and were representative of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644 A.D.)

The Ming Dynasty was the last Chinese dynasty to rule the empire, reaching its zenith of power during the first quarter of the 15th Century. It was a period of cultural restoration and expansion after the Mongols were removed from the throne in China. The re-established Chinese ruling house led to the imposition of court-dictated styles in the arts. Painters were instructed to return to realistic representation, in emulation of the styles of the Song (1127-1279 A.D.) Imperial Painting Academy. Large-scale landscapes, and flower-and-bird images were particularly favored as images that would glorify the new dynasty and majesty.

The Ming period seemed to have been one of China's most prosperous. Advances in the sciences that were achieved under Ming rule led the Chinese rulers to believe they had created the best civilization on earth. Under the Ming rule, the Great Wall of China was completed. While the Great Wall had been built in earlier times, most
of what is seen today was built or repaired by the Ming. The Ming Dynasty lasted for 276 years with 16 emperors occupying the throne.

At The Gallery, the items exhibited were intricately carved jade, as well as several Ming Dynasty vases. A large reclining Buddha in white jade was the impressive cornerstone of the exhibit and visitors were encouraged to lay a hand on the feet of the Buddha to invoke peace and prosperity.
